Imageboard culture
Nobody hates 4chan more than 4chan users.
tl;dr just click open all the links below.
In the past, I always enjoyed going through directory listings, that is, webpages that simply list a bunch of image/video/text/other files put there by the user. With nothing but a vague filename to guide you, it was always a surprise what you would see after clicking a link. Often it would be a pleasant surprise, since people don’t hoard digital data for no reason.
I have tried to capture some that old spirit in the following pages. It’s essentially a similar personal collection of images and other cool stuff from imageboards and other sources of similar (good) aesthetic quality, but organized via my associations rather than alphabetically. It begins with split by the boards of 4chan, in part to point out their diverse nature. It’s not just /pol/ and /b/ that, I think, unjustly tarnish reputation of the whole site.
The collecting of emojis, GIFs and memes has become more and more popular among many youngsters-the older, the better. Bright, colorful high-definition ones are not popular among the major collectors. No, they want digital “antiques”, older images from the early days of meme culture. The more rudimentary and blurry the memes, the better.
