True Detective
Season 1
Started watching the series True Detective (2014). Great first episode, that cool main detective is really interesting. A nihilist almost, perhaps. Awesome deep voice too.
Interesting environments in this series. Louisiana I think it was (the state west of Florida). Lots of water, flooding, different kind of greenery somehow that I think I tend to see in US shows. I know US nature is very diverse though, such a big piece of land (multiple pieces in fact). There were some big factories seen in the horizon of the first two episodes. It was probably very intentional, I thought it fit well. I also think I heard some kind of drumming background music that seemed to go well with the murder case they are solving. Almost feels like a jungle creeping over the withering community, eating it alive. And I’m sure they pass the footage through filters and do other kind of trickery to get the atmosphere just right. I’m just impressed, that’s what I’m saying.
I love how Rust is opening a new can of beer per episode in that questioning/interview, although he’s already one ahead. Finished the third episode, getting exciting. I know this series is made of multiple disjoint stories, but I don’t know if they are 8 episodes long, a whole season. Could very well be half or irregular. Hope it’s 8.
Fourth episode. Fucking intense. As if undercover police work, crazy cruel motorcycle gangs and robbing a stash in the hoods wasn’t tough enough, this guy goes in unofficially, without backup, having to evade not only the hoodies and police, but also the gangers, as he gets exposed mid-action, all the while escorting a violent prisoner. This guy makes Jack Bauer look soft and silly.
Finished the first season. Latter half was a lot slower, and it felt a little unconnected to me. Basically just a turns-out-we-didn’t-get-all-the-bad-guys-back-then -sequel plot. The dynamics between the two main characters were best, as you might expect, but I didn’t like how the story ended for Rust. I liked his younger, tougher, and cynical self better.
