Watched the film Tenet (2020). It was great. I wasn’t expecting a mindfuck on the level of Inception, but something tamer. Still, it was a bit too confusing, I’m almost certain there are tons of plot holes and impossibilities in the very setup, but I’m not going to look for them because of suspension of disbelief, and because it wouldn’t achieve anything. I love innovative world building like this, but I think if you tone down the fantasy a bit then the story can be even better. For example the time travel of Fate/Stay Night left a stronger impression on me because it was leveraged for story purposes more than to be a brain teaser. But yeah, I’m super glad Nolan still makes films like this, and I definitely want to see another film in the world of Inception.

Both this and Inception share a kind of “special ops” setup. Maybe that is optimal for action films.

Tenet (film)

Nolan tried not to watch any spy movies that might influence him while making Tenet, instead relying on his memories of the films.

Instead of using miniatures and visual effects (VFX) for the plane crash sequence, Nolan determined that purchasing a Boeing 747 proved more cost-effective.

Another Hitchcockian theory is that the Algorithm is a MacGuffin that does not actually possess its purported entropy-manipulating properties and is an elaborate fabrication by the future Protagonist to ensure the events of the film take place, for some other reason (e.g. because Kat’s son will play an important role in the future and needs to be separated from Sator).
