Mushoku Tensei
Page musicStarted watching the anime Mushoku Tensei. I picked it up just because it was an isekai anime that I remembered by name and I had currently been going through some works in the genre. This is great, definitely not what I expected. “Comfy” is the apt word here I think. Daring, but the right amount of sex is just right.
The connection between Roxy and the young Rudeus (the MC) was so magical, I really hope to see her again, probably after some time skips, depending on how this series progresses. For example he saw her masturbating when the parents were having sex, and it was funny yet deep how after she left he kept a pair of her stolen panties as “holy relic”, which the maid found about but kept the secret. (Later when he is separated from the relic for years, she gives it to him as a 10 year birthday present).
Lol, just after I wrote it’s suddenly about to turn into a pregnancy and adultery drama :D
Sixth episode. Feels like so much has happened already. Great stuff, not a second wasted. Some city merchant is trying to sell the Rudeus magic viagra (or potion for girls, something like that). Then later the girl who has no idea what it is buys it to Rudeus as present.
The action in this anime is also top tier.
Rudeus makes figures as a hobby using magic. The one depicting Roxy is just a like a bishoujo figure, complete with panties under the skirt. He then sells it. But it doesn’t end there: Roxy’s current student happens to buy it and enthusiastically shows it to her. “Its robe is removable, and it even has moles in all the right places.” (Probably this makes her realize who made the figurine, I don’t remember)
I love how all the guys are pervs, and have a great sense at that.
The way Rudeus travels with one girl at a time seems like a pretty great alternative to harem-like developments. But I do hope he gets to meet them again, especially Roxy best girl.
Guy finishes fucking a whore, asks Rudeus to approach and starts talking about something. In the English translation Rudeus thinks to himself: “He seems more calm than usual. Post-nut clarity?” ( 賢者モード, Japanese has a word for everything)
There are so many great little things in the writing, this has to be a LN original right? I think many manga have outstanding writing not to be belittled next to literary novels or something, but they do often focus on the art to that degree that the writing loses some edge. LNs are also not usually literary masterpieces, but they tend to have at least something quite original. They are genre fiction, that is they focus on delivering the “beats” that the reader expects from the genre, while always putting a novel spin on it. This “intertextuality” is a very prominent feature of Japanese fiction I think, and when done properly it does not feel repetitive but instead deep and interesting.
Episode 9, looks like shit’s getting real. I actually liked the way it was.
Rudeus meets Roxy’s father in her hometown and in his mind calls him otoosan (“father”). He also knows the best girl. Haha, Rudeus asks the man if he can call him otoosan and gets a flat happy “No.”. But the wife is blushing.
The series has a pretty good lore too, partly I think because it doesn’t rush to spoil everything. The pacing is just absolutely perfect.
It is indeed a light novel series, originally maybe some “web novel”. 26 volumes in ten years, now complete. How?! It also comes in manga form, and I’m not sure if those other novel formats have involved rewriting. Now that I think, all the light novel writers I know are prolific as hell. Maybe there’s is something “easy” about the medium. Hah, as if…
Watching Mushoku Tensei. Rudeus is hesitant to go to the magic university, but changes his mind when the man-god tells him doing so will lead to curing his impotence.
It was foreshadowed for a long time, but I didn’t except much from the Ranoa university arc. However, the author brilliantly brings together lots of previous characters I expected to never see again.
Zanoba is funny. He tries to make figures but cannot because his super strength ruins everything. They go on a date to buy a slave for help.
Rudeus has upgraded to calling Roxy panties “a holy relic of my faith”, and is now spreading the faith. I wouldn’t mind becoming part of said faith.
Well… apparently the worst girl won.
Damn, I couldn’t wait for the next season to come out so I had to spoil myself. Roxy becomes the second wife, then Eris the third, eh. Sound a bit like the stereotypical isekai I’ve heard so much about. Also seems like the anime could continue for two or more 2-cour seasons. I guess I’ll watch them, but at this point feels like this might not become an enduring favorite after all, but still definitely a very good one.
