Kiwi Farms
This person by the nick “Byuu” declared publicly he would kill himself, although there is no confirmation he went through with it. I first read about this affair on some discussion boards and people as usual were very condemning of those bad internet bullies who obviously made it happen (calling it murder among other things). Someone there posted a link to the “bullying site”, so I checked it out and it turns out to be the infamous Kiwi Farms site I’ve heard so much about but never visited myself. So I now went there to inform myself and what I find is super-civil discussion, with Byuu himself joining and appreciating many of the thoughtful responses.
This is Byuu’s first post on Kiwi Farms (Near is another nick of his):

They are not even surprised that Near posted there, apparently it’s a common thing for the “targets” to come defend themselves.
One site user says in that thread:
Many people who get threads on this site (or end up in general drama threads as topics of discussion) don’t end up changing and end up digging their hole deeper, or make accounts to try to fight the forum turning it into something straight out of a trashy talk show. Usually threads on people die out when they change and as the replies from this thread show, more people are interested in an emulation general thread or talking about people like Squarepusher. To put it bluntly, this site at it’s core is a drama or trashfire watching website and even some people with threads here had/have fans as the Terry Davis thread showed. Plenty of people still respect you because of your work on BSNES/Higan in the same way people respect the work of the MAME project. Sure, some people do hold grudges that last for years but I do believe that people can change.
Not to say there aren’t also some less friendly posts on the site/thread:
The only way out is to do the world a favor and join the 41%. I recommend the Terry Davis approach. Just think of all the asspats your troon followers will give you in your eulogy!

Summary: While I’m not convinced kiwifarmers are “evil”, I can’t imagine what they do on that site is very useful for themselves either. It’s like 4chan but instead of talking about real world things they only talk about people who have issues.
