Watched the film The Other Side of Hope (2017). Really good. Easily the best Finnish film I’ve ever seen. Somehow really honest and “humane”, the kind that makes me cry. The portrayal of Finnish people is just perfect and humorous. I also like the anachronistic bits, like when a policeman writes with an ancient typewriter while taking fingerprints with a modern device connected to a laptop. It’s filmed very recently and did not try to hide it even though I think the “main” time period was 80-90s. Among other things there was tv news footage from nineties or noughts. The other Kaurismäki films I’ve seen also have similar stuff.

I have no recollection of ever seeing a film like that, but I remember other Kaurismäki films so I guess I’ll trust my records here. I wish I could forget other “best” works like that and watch them again.
