Watching the anime Hyouka. My friend liked this one very much but I had trouble watching it back then. I think already then I knew better than to use the word “boring” — I think it was really that I had so much other things to consume and do that I prefered to pick up the more exciting anime. I thought there would be a time I’d come back to this and it seems the time has arrived.

From now on I might appreciate more the kind of anime for “refined taste”, which understand now not to be about watching pretentiously smart stuff, but just curiosity and boredom from the more mainstream material. Anime is so professionally made that even the formulaic stuff will keep you excited for years, but yeah, eventually one might converge to the unique, perhaps “book-like” series and films that manage to surprise even an experienced viewer. I also used to think being to concerned about visual art is a bit snobby. Story should be most important etc. But great art too might be for an experienced viewer less about “better” and more about “something else than the repetitive stuff I’ve seen a million times”.

Mayaka is so incredibly cute.

The photography of the second ED of Hyouka is very nice.

Finished watching Hyouka (besides the OVA). Solid quality throughout. I can see why people despair “Season 2 never”.

Just realized Hyouka is based on novels and there’s a manga adaptation. Should read that manga some time, looks nice.
