Reading Gotoubun no Hanayome. This kind of manga always gets a bad rushed ending because it’s probably designed to run for as long as possible but eventually fails at that. Some basic harem ending with no closure. I don’t really know if there’s any alternative with that kind of setting — maybe give separate routes for each girl in different volumes?

Saenai Kanojo did something similar with the novel and manga versions. I think manga should take more advantage of its serial format to make use of fan feedback and authors’ changing ideas. I’m sure that happens to some extent, but I imagine it would be more noticeable if used more.

Reading more 5toubun no hanayome. Nino best girl. I once read on /a/ a theory that otaku like girls (characters) like her because they never got any other kind of treatment from IRL hot girls. So you can imagine they didn’t really loathe you, they were just being tsundere! Probably a related thing with femdom — because otaku wouldn’t know how to handle a girl they come to prefer girls who handle them. Maybe there’s a seed of truth to the theory, but I think mostly it’s other reasons, such as the feeling of “difficulty” to bring MC close to a girl opposed to him. Stories with very compatible couples sometimes have to rely on external challenges to create conflict in the love which can make it feel like “forced drama”.

The closing chapter of 4th volume suggests that the author is actually going to deliver on the promise to pick one among the five, but I’m not buying it. This manga is coming out at quick pace, started in August 2017 and already has 6 or 7 volumes out. I don’t think it’s a particularly great manga anyway, some parts I’m just flipping the pages, but few others make me laugh out loud. Like in this timeskip to the wedding chapter the girls’ rich father pretends to not know the wedding is taking place (“my schedule for today is blank”), so MC’s dad who is employee in the company phones the father, his boss, insulting his poor behavior which makes him go “looks like I just got an appointment to set you straight” (i.e. come to the wedding site where he is).
